In a bid to stamp the authority of the newly created Telangana state onto films, the government has come up with a proposal to change the name of the Nandi Awards. This announcement comes days after their assurance to ensure total support to the film industry in the recently hosted ANR Awards event. Apparently, KCR is considering three names including Ekashila for the topmost state-honour in celebrating the best of Telugu cinema, which shall be made public soon.
Minister for Cinematography and Commercial Taxes, Talasani Srinivas Yadav making the announcement, also invited the industry for an open meeting in the month of January in 2015 to take sufficient measures to encourage the industry. He added that the theatres need to be regular in paying their entertainment taxes and shouldn't promote false statistics to avoid them. The GHMC is also preparing an online counter to check theatre bookings and the related accounts.
