Ram Gopal Varma returns to romance genre (after more than a decade) with his forthcoming film 365 Days, starring Nandoo and Anaika Soti. In a media interaction, the filmmakers shares a few insights about what went into making the film, his thoughts on marriage, etc. Excerpts from the interview.

What made you comeback to romance 'genre'

It’s not a comeback but it’s just the script that excited me to make such a film. I’ve been working on other action films (Golusu). Irrespective of the genre, what drives me to make a film is the intrinsic values and connectivity in the script. I felt that in this film.

What’s the content of 365 Days?

I have this script right from the time I got married. Through my personal experiences and references of my friends and relatives, I’ve tried to showcase how contemporary couples easily get into arguments and split soon after their wedding. I’ve tried to article the command and natural behavioral changes in the couple post marriage.  Although I don’t believe in the institution of marriage but I believe I’ve taken enough insights from people to convincingly narrate the story.

How was your equation with your wife?

When I was busy, going away from the house and making films, my wife was deeply hurt. But I’m blaming her because she felt that I was not giving her enough time, and soon we parted way.  Later, I realized that it was my mistake that I could not give her time. But I never tried again to convey it to her. My passion for films kept me going.

Your daughter got married recently. Did you take any inputs from her for the film: RGV

Yes, I took her inputs. In fact, I gave my final script to her and she suggested a few changes towards the climax.  She seems me like an alien but I got used to those things. In fact, my daughter and son-in-law are so happy with their lives but I see them as the most boring couple (quips).

Are you surprised the film got U certificate (first time for your film)

Hhhhm! I’m not really surprised because I never got into such things like certification. No matter how clean I try to make films, people think I’m going overboard.

What made you make a film on Veerappan

Like I said earlier, I look into the emotional quotient in the script and if I get connected to it, I’ll make the film.  I feel the intelligence operation behind the hunting of sandalwood smuggler Veerappan has far more thrilling drama than "Zero Dark Thirty". We want to shoot the film in areas where Veerappan actually stayed and moved. The film will commence shooting soon and the location hunt is currently on.
