While the Hindi filmmaking scenario has been changing gradually with new trends of corporate film making, distributing and exhibiting of mainstream cinema, the trend hasn’t really picked up in the Telugu film industry. In such a scenario, a young event manager has turned into a producer by launching a crowd-funded film.
Srinivas Gunishetty of Page3 Entertainments, a popular event management company in the city, took a different approach to filmmaking instead of producing a film all by himself. He backed up a crowd funded film ‘Pesarattu’. When asked why he chose to do so, he says, “Most of my friends in the industry discourage me whenever I express my desire to enter films.
They have the perfect reason to do so, as at present it is not a right place for investment. Many films are not even recovering their capital cost, leave alone making profits. But, ‘Pesarattu’ is a crowd-funded and cooperative method of making a film where a lot of passionate people come together.”
‘Pesarattu’, which releases today, features Nandu and Nikita Narayan as the lead pair and is directed by Mahesh Kathi. Touted to be a farcical comedy, shot using the flow-cam technology introduced by Ram Gopal Varma, the film’s music is being directed by Ghantasala Vishwanath.
