There's a widespread myth in Telugu film industry that sequels don't work out much. Proving this right again, Ravi Babu's latest directorial venture Avunu 2 failed to score brownie points unlike its original which was equally lapped up by the critics and audiences.
The wafer-thin plot of a newly-wed girl being haunted by an evil spirit is a deja vu and Ravi Babu was unsuccessful in offering an edge-of-the-seat thriller experience. Despite roping in the same cast like its original, what works against the film is the lethargic and predictable screenplay.
Avunu was made with a shoe-string budget of Rs 1.84 Crore and managed to garner over Rs 8.5 Crore and turned out as the blockbuster as it recovered over 8 times of the film's budget. There were also reports that the film would be remade in Hindi with a popular actress but the attempts didn't materialise and hence Avunu 2 was born. After delivering a disaster in form of Laddu Babu, many have hoped that Avunu 2 would fare well breaking the jinx of sequels. But dashing all the hopes, even Ravi failed to overcome it.
