Story:
Vijay Salgaonkar (Ajay) lives in Goa with his wife Nandini (Shriya) and two beautiful daughters. Vijay is a bollywood film lover and runs a local cable business. The family shares a special bond and lead a happy life until his teenage daughter Anu (Ishita) goes for a inter-school nature camp and meets Sameer Deshmukh(Risabh Chaddha) the son of IG, Meera Deshmukh (Tabu).
Sameer shoots a video-clip of Anu in the shower and starts blackmailing her. Twist in the tale arises when a mishap takes place landing Vijay’s in deep trouble. Rest of the story is as to how will the family comes out of this situation.
Plus Points:
How many times do you sit in a movie hall waiting with heavy breath, not wanting to miss a single sequence? Well, Drishyam will surely help you experience that. The movie is not just another thriller, it is an amalgamation of an awesome story, excellent performances and an amazing screenplay.
Speaking of performances, the very talented Tabu displays her fabulous acting skills through her grey shades in the movie. She takes the film to an altogether different level and looks promising as a cop. While the first half only builds up the story and talks about the strong bond between Vijay and his family, the second half is where the actual drama unfolds.
Ajay Devgn may be mostly seen by the audiences in masala flicks, but he makes up for a excellent serious role and plays the role of a protective father with perfection. The suspense factor in the film is executed in a superb way.
Minus Points:
The main problem here is that the director forgets how he is making a thriller in the first half, as the movie starts getting interesting only post the interval, when the thrill unfolds and story falls in place.
The film gains pace only after Tabu’s smashing entry. Shriya and rest of Vijay’s family could have been a better casting. The actors really do not make much difference.
Technical aspects:
Even though the narrative is quite simple, it is extremely nail bitting. The screenplay will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout, till the climax, which is again extremely engaging. The music album too is apt and all the songs (which are not many) compliment the plot. Nishikanth Kamat’s direction is edgy as he does not experiment much in this remake.
Verdict:
On the whole, Drishyam has everything which you are looking out in a thriller. Even though the first half is a little off the track, the second half makes up for all the flaws. After a long time comes a thriller which is worth a watch and interesting till the climax.
