Earlier, we had predicted that the box office collections of Simbu's Vaalu might be close to 8 crore rupees on its opening weekend (first three days) from Tamil Nadu alone, based on its theatre occupancy and opinions from trade analysts.
Though the official box office figures for the whole of Tamil Nadu has not yet been ascertained, reliable sources suggest that Vaalu has collected 1.03 crore rupees from its first three days in Chennai city alone. This collection of over a crore just from the Capital city is pretty decent for a Simbu starrer considering the competition it had to face from Arya's 25th flick Vasuvum Saravananum Onna Padichavanga (VSOP).
Talking about VSOP, it is said that the Arya-Tamannaah starrer went on to collect 96.4 lakh rupees in Chennai from its opening weekend which proves that both Vaalu and VSOP enjoyed a good run over the weekend. In the United States, Vaalu had a pretty ordinary run until Saturday.
Collecting $1.5K from its Thursday premieres, the Simbu starrer went on to collect $12.6K and $10.4K from Friday and Saturday respectively, according to a source. The overall gross from USA (excluding Sunday) now stands at $24,501 which when converted becomes 15.98 lakh rupees. Stay tuned for more official box office numbers of Vaalu and VSOP.
Vaalu
Simbu's Vaalu clearly ruled the box office in Chennai last weekend. The movie had a fantastic opening day and continued its good run over the next two days as well.
VSOP
Arya's VSOP enjoyed a run almost similar to that of Vaalu in Chennai. Thanks to some decent reviews from fans and critics, the movie picked up quite well on its second and third day.
Brothers
The Hindi flick starring Akshay Kumara and Sidharth Malhotra has collected 21.9 lakh rupees in Chennai and thereby holding on to third position.
Baahubali
The historical movie and Nation's highest grosser ever is still going strong in Chennai. With a total collections of a massive 7.76 crores, Baahubali had taken the fourth slot at the box office last weekend.
Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation
MI 5's total collection in the city stands at 1.05 crore rupees. Though the film's performance dropped last weekend, it still managed to dictate terms in multiplexes and therefore takes the fifth place.
Srimanthudu
With a total collection of 68.1 lakh rupees, Mahesh Babu's Srimanthudu (Selvandhan in Tamil) takes the sixth slot at Chennai box office. It is said that the movie's collections dropped drastically over the past weekend.
