Rating : 2.75/5

Welcome Back is the sequel to Welcome, which released in 2007. Directed by Anees Bazmee, this movie which features John Abraham, Shruti Haasan, Nana Patekar, Anil Kapoor and Paresh Rawal in lead roles has hit the screens today. Let’s see how it is.

Story:

Welcome Back takes off from where its prequel ended. Uday Shetty (Nana Patekar) and Majnu Bhai (Anil Kapoor) are back but this time not as goons but ex-goons who run a business in Dubai.

In the midst of all this, Uday learns that his father has a daughter(Shruthi Haasan) from his third marriage and now that it is their responsibility to find her a suitable groom. Uday and Majnu start searching a suitable bride for their sister Ranjana, but she falls in love with a gangster Ajju Bhai (John Abraham).

Twist in the tale arises when Uday and Majnu realize that Ajju Bhai is the son of the most wanted Bhai and also a drug addict. What does Uday and Majnu bhai do now ? Will they allow Ranjana and Ajju Bhai marry each other? That forms the rest of the story.

Plus points:

The performances by the lead cast are decent. Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor are a super combo and they are the only reason, the first half is watchable. Welcome Back offers with some eye-catching locations, which are the only thing to watch out for. Surveen Chawla’s item number is also major asset of the film.

Anil Kapoor is hilarious with his lines and his chemistry with Nana is breath taking. The duo brings hilarious laughs and evoke decent entertainment. John is ok in his role. Shruthi is good as the troubled sister. Paresh Rawal does his supporting role well.

Minus Points:

Major drawback of the film is the story as it does not contain any interesting and fresh stuff. The first half is entertaining, but the second half is boring and forces the audience to deviate the minds.

The romantic quotient between Shruthi and John is shown in a hurry and makes no sense. There are many logical errors in the film and climax lacks clarity. Unnecessary comedy and illogical scenes make the film out of place.

Technical Aspects:

Music is just about Ok. While the screenplay is loose and confusing, the editing too is not at all up to the mark. A few scenes do not connect with each other and go haywire. Dialogues are fine, as a few one-liners sure make you laugh.

Director Anees Bazmee couldn’t manage to entertain his audience throughout the movie. It was only in the first half that the interest factor is kept alive, the second half completely lacks entertainment.

Verdict:

Welcome Back comes as a bit of a disappointment for the audience even though it has some experienced cast and crew. It does not any such moments which were famous in the first part. Watch it only if you like crazy comedies and have nothing else to do.
