If the collections that one is witnessing today is an indication one could say that the run of the film Son of Satyamurthy starring Allu Arjun could be coming to end shortly. The trade expects it to be most likely scenario after the end of its second weekend. And they have their reason too with the biggest threat Ganga ready to be unleashed.
Ganga is the third part in the Muni series and the next one after highly successful Kanchana directed by Raghava Lawrence. Now Lawrence is one director whose films usually gets panned by the critics. There is not even a single film of his after his directorial debut Mass that has been liked by the critics. But the shocking truth is that all those films have been the biggest grossers for the respective heroes at those times.
What the above fact indicates is that there is clear disconnect between what the critics expect and what the masses accept from the director. So naturally given this track record Ganga is seen as a film for the masses, the b and c centers. It is precisely in these centers that the film Son of Satyamurthy is doing poorly. If Ganga releasing this Friday were to get good word of mouth among the masses, it could very well prove to be a final nail in its coffin as far as box office numbers are concerned.
Can Raghava Lawrence repeat history? Or is there is a twist in the tale? There is a talk that the film might not make it to theaters this week due to financial troubles. If that’s the case it could surely provide some respite for SOS. But will this happen? Let’s wait and see how things unfold in the coming 48 hours.
